| Physical Description | Silas Vane has the sort of appearance that can pass effortlessly between handsome and unsettling depending on how long someone looks at him. He stands a little over six feet tall, with a lean, athletic build that disguises considerably more strength than his frame suggests. His features are sharp without being gaunt, with a strong jaw, high cheekbones and a mouth that seems naturally inclined towards a faint, knowing smile. His dark hair is usually worn slightly longer on top and kept in a style that appears casual without ever truly being untidy. His eyes are perhaps his most memorable feature, a pale, cold grey that can appear almost silver beneath certain light. There is an easy confidence to the way Silas carries himself, relaxed and controlled rather than overtly threatening, with the quiet assurance of someone who rarely believes himself to be in genuine danger. He dresses well when circumstances allow, favouring dark, understated clothing that gives him an air of refinement without drawing unnecessary attention. Nothing about him immediately announces what he is, but there is often something just slightly wrong in the stillness of his gaze or the precision of his movements, the impression of a predator who has spent a very long time learning how to look human. |

Personality & Traits
| General Overview | Silas is intelligent, charismatic and deeply self-assured, carrying himself with the easy confidence of someone who has spent a long time surviving by being underestimated. He is observant, articulate and often surprisingly personable, with a dry sense of humour and a natural ability to make people feel as though they have his full attention. He enjoys conversation almost as much as intimidation, particularly when he knows something the other person does not, and he has a habit of treating dangerous situations as though they are private jokes only he understands. Beneath that charm, Silas is profoundly predatory. He does not simply kill to survive and makes no effort to pretend otherwise. He enjoys stalking people, testing them, frightening them and controlling the pace of a confrontation, often drawing things out because the anticipation matters to him as much as the violence itself. There is a theatrical streak to his cruelty, not in the sense of elaborate spectacle for its own sake, but in his need for the hunt to feel personal. A frightened victim is more satisfying than an unaware one, and someone who fights back is often more interesting still. Silas is vain, patient and difficult to rattle, but his greatest weakness is the same thing that makes him dangerous: he enjoys the game too much. He is capable of walking away from an easy kill if he believes waiting will make the eventual outcome more satisfying, and he can become fixated on people who surprise, resist or challenge him. Once something captures his interest, simple hunger can quickly become obsession. |

| Strengths & Weaknesses | Silas is highly intelligent, patient and exceptionally observant, with a talent for reading people and recognising the fears, desires and weaknesses he can exploit. His natural charisma allows him to move comfortably among humans without immediately attracting suspicion, while his confidence and composure make him difficult to intimidate. He is an experienced hunter who knows how to stalk a target, manipulate circumstances and wait for the right moment rather than acting purely on impulse. Silas is also highly adaptable, capable of changing his methods quickly when a victim or situation refuses to behave as expected. He is enormously arrogant and tends to view those around him as prey rather than genuine threats. His love of the hunt frequently overrides practicality, causing him to prolong situations that could otherwise be resolved quickly and giving determined opponents opportunities they would not have had. He can become intensely fixated on anyone who resists, surprises or intrigues him, and his desire to understand and ultimately dominate such people can develop into obsession. Silas also has a pronounced appetite for powerful or unusual blood, and the promise of an exceptional feeding can compromise the patience and self-control he normally prides himself upon. |
| Personal History | Silas was born in the Echo World, though little reliable information exists about his life there or the circumstances that eventually brought him to Earth. What is known suggests that predatory behaviour was already deeply ingrained in him before he crossed between worlds. Silas has occasionally spoken of his birthplace with familiarity rather than affection, suggesting that whatever ties he once possessed there have long since ceased to matter to him. Earth proved far more appealing. Humanity offered Silas an enormous and remarkably vulnerable hunting ground, filled with people who knew nothing of creatures like him and societies willing to explain away almost anything if given a sufficiently ordinary alternative. He learned quickly how to disappear among human populations, moving between towns and cities, assuming new identities when necessary and rarely remaining anywhere long enough for individual deaths to form an obvious pattern. Over time, feeding became secondary to the hunt itself. Silas discovered that he enjoyed choosing victims, learning their routines and allowing fear to build before finally killing them. He also became increasingly fascinated by unusual blood, particularly that belonging to supernatural beings or those with mixed heritage, having learned that certain blood could produce effects far beyond ordinary feeding. That fascination eventually became an appetite in its own right. His killings inevitably attracted Meridian's attention. Investigators gradually connected a number of otherwise unrelated deaths to the same unidentified Veyr, beginning a pursuit that has continued intermittently for years. Silas has survived largely because he understands when to disappear, crossing jurisdictions and abandoning identities whenever the pursuit becomes inconvenient. More recently, something has drawn his attention towards the small town of Renshaw. Silas does not know precisely what he has sensed or who might be responsible for it. He only knows that something unusual is there, and the uncertainty has made the prospect considerably more enticing. For Silas, Renshaw represents both a mystery worth solving and an untouched hunting ground in which to enjoy himself while he searches. |
